Mick Schumacher could also climb into the cockpit for the traditional McLaren racing team in the coming Formula 1 season.
As the team from England announced on Wednesday, McLaren can fall back on Schumacher as a reserve driver.
That was agreed with Mercedes.
After leaving the US team Haas at the end of last year, the 23-year-old is primarily a reserve pilot for the Silver Arrows.
"Welcome to the family, Mick," McLaren tweeted just over a month before the start of the season on March 5 in Bahrain.
McLaren is supplied with engines by Mercedes.
The collaboration also comes about because McLaren's new team boss Andrea Stella once worked closely with Mick's father Michael Schumacher.
The Italian worked as an engineer at Ferrari and was also responsible for the car of the record world champion.
After two years with Haas, Mick Schumacher did not get a new contract for 2023.
He will be replaced by compatriot Nico Hulkenberg in the future.
In the new season, Schumacher is the replacement and development driver for Mercedes behind regular drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
Other Mercedes engine customers include Aston Martin and Williams.
Last year, Nyck de Vries, a replacement for the Silver Arrows, stepped in at Williams on short notice.
The Dutchman was so convincing that AlphaTauri recruited him as a regular driver for this year.
