The Football Association announced that it had reached an agreement with Argentine Hector Cuper to be the technical director of the first Syrian national team, provided that he arrives with his assistant staff to sign the contract in the coming days.

The new coach was born on November 16, 1955, and his career as a player extended for more than 15 years, during which he played for a number of Argentine clubs, most notably Ferro Osti and Huracan. He turned to the world of coaching, after retiring from playing, and his name appeared with the Spanish club Mallorca, after he led him to the Spanish Super Cup in 1955. 1998 at the expense of Barcelona, ​​Spain, before he succeeded in bringing Valencia to the European Cup Winners' Cup final when he lost with Lazio in 1999, and then to the Champions League final in 2000 and 2001 when he lost to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, respectively.

Among his other most notable achievements is the runner-up with Inter in the Italian League championship 2002-2003 season, and runner-up in the Greek Cup with Aris Thessaloniki in 2010.

At the national level, Hector Cuper coached the Georgia national team between 2008 and 2009, the Egyptian national team and led it to the African Cup runner-up in 2017 and then to the 2018 World Cup in Russia after a 28-year absence from the finals, then he coached the national teams of Uzbekistan and Congo.
