The club, Ajax Amsterdam, competing in the Dutch Football League, announced today that the former Dutch player, John Heitinga, will continue in his position as coach of the team until the end of the season.
And the former Atletico Madrid and Everton player moved from training Young Ajax, the reserve team and competitor in the Dutch second division, to take over the leadership of the first team last week as an interim coach, to succeed coach Alfred Schroeder, who was sacked.
Ajax won 4-1 away from Excelsior last Sunday, in the first match under Heatinga's leadership.
The club said: Heitinga will continue in his position until the end of the season with the appointment of veteran Dwight Ludwig as his assistant.
Ajax advanced one place in the Dutch first division after its recent victory, to occupy fourth place, and is five points behind leaders Feyenoord.
Defending champions Ajax will play away to Cambuur next Sunday.
Schroeder was sacked after a series of poor results, six months after taking over, to succeed coach Erik Ten Hag, who moved to Manchester United.
