Chessboxing is first and foremost a funny idea that came straight from the brain and pencil strokes of Enki Bilal.
In 1992, this French artist born in Belgrade imagined, in his comic strip
Froid Équateur
, the ultimate discipline combining cognitive abilities and physical strength.
He then mixes chess with the noble art of boxing.
A new discipline is born!
It was ten years later that this imaginary sport came to life, under the impetus of Iepe Rubingh, a Dutch artist.
The two men meet and the first chessboxing fight takes place in April 2003. Almost 20 years later, this sport continues to develop around the world.
In France, it is Guillaume Salançon who actively participates in the growth of his discipline.
