FC Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has criticized the surprising dismissal of goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalović.
“There was no justification that I could understand.
Things were said that I don't share," said the national goalkeeper in an interview with the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".
According to Neuer, the separation from Tapalović caused a great deal of incomprehension among the FC Bayern goalkeepers.
"Everyone in our goalkeeper group was torn apart, people burst into tears."
Tapalović and Neuer previously worked together at FC Schalke 04.
When Neuer switched to Bayern in 2011, Tapalović also came along and experienced one of the most successful times in FC Bayern's history.
This January, Bayern surprisingly kicked the goalkeeper coach out.
"I felt like my heart was being ripped out, that was the craziest thing I've experienced in my career," said Neuer.
FC Bayern explained the separation coolly: "Particularly differences about the way of working together have now led to us going our separate ways," said sports director Hasan Salihamidžić in a club statement.
Neuer contradicts mole rumors
Above all, Neuer did not like this impersonal way of separation.
»It has to do with the human aspect, dealing with a deserving employee: At Bayern Munich we want to be different – a family.
And then something happens that I haven't experienced here before," he told the "SZ".
According to reports, the relationship with head coach Julian Nagelsmann was not right.
Various media also reported that Tapalović was the mole who kept leaking internals to the media.
Neuer contradicted these rumors in the "SZ" interview: "Toni never did that, no matter under which coach."
The dismissal of his confidante was also seen as a signal to Manuel Neuer.
The keeper broke his leg on a ski tour in mid-December and will be out until at least the end of the season.
In response, the club signed Yann Sommer from Borussia Mönchengladbach, a strong goalkeeper who is unlikely to hand over his place between the posts to Neuer without a fight.
Neuer admitted in the interview that after Tapalović's sacking he also questioned his future.
'I've thought of everything.
Also when it comes to my own future in the club.«
However, those responsible informed him that the separation from Tapalović had nothing to do with him, said Neuer.
