The New England Patriots from the professional football league NFL want to offer club idol Tom Brady a one-day contract after his resignation.

"I'll do it tomorrow," club owner Robert Kraft was quoted as saying on the franchise's website on Thursday.

Kraft wants Brady, 45, to officially retire as a Patriot.

»Not only do I want it, our fans are clamoring for it.

He has always been a patriot for us and always will be," Kraft said in the TV interview with CNN.

"We will do everything in our power to bring him back and honor him for many years to come."

Brady announced his retirement from American football on Wednesday – again.

His announcement came exactly one year to the day after his initial retirement.

"I'll get straight to the point, I'll stop," said the 45-year-old in a video: "I thank everyone for their support.

Thank you for letting me live my absolute dream.

I wouldn't do anything differently.«

Since then, there has been public speculation as to whether Brady will fulfill his lucrative contract as a TV expert with the Fox TV station ($375 million) or whether he will not be able to keep his hands off the ball after all.

His first resignation from retirement came in March last year after just 40 days.

At the time, Brady said he still had "unfinished business" to do.

It's unclear whether Brady will accept the Patriots' potential offer.

Most successful time with the Patriots

The quarterback played for 23 years and won the Super Bowl a total of seven times.

The US professional league NFL loses the most successful player in its history.

Brady is a sports icon in the USA, there are hardly any pass, win or touchdown records that he doesn't hold.

He had his most successful time with the Patriots, with whom he won the Super Bowl six times.

The quarterback spent the last three years of his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whom he led to a Super Bowl victory.
