Anzing – Because both the lions and the Lower Franconia went into this Bayern league season with great ambitions.

While the SVA, as the reigning runner-up, declared the playoffs as a goal, many experts considered Lohr the hottest candidate for promotion to the 3rd division.

But then both teams didn't really get going in the preliminary round.

The result: both Anzing in the Bayernliga Süd and TSV Lohr in the Nord-Staffel missed out on the top four that they had hoped for.

Now both have to fight in the playdowns to stay up in the Bavarian upper house.

And at least so far, the two clubs have lived up to their role as favourites: SVA and TSV are enthroned side by side at the top of the table with 4-0 points each.

"Lohr had a lot of injuries in the preliminary round and didn't really get going," says coach Hubert Müller, who looks after the lions together with Kay Hoffmann.

“But now they are complete again and have won their first two games with ease.

It will be a very interesting game for us.”

It is still uncertain to what extent Anzing can fall back on regular keeper Lucas Scharder in this top duel.

The reason: The goalkeeper injured his shoulder during training on Tuesday.

Apart from him, however, the SVA has the entire squad at its disposal, and there is no lack of self-confidence either.

"We're in a good mood and have won six games in a row," said Müller.

Should his team extend this series on Saturday, "then we would be really good at it," adds the coach.

Ultimately, he is convinced: "Not many teams will win against Lohr in these playdowns."
