The Geretsrieder River Rats started the Bayernliga relegation round with a difficult 4:3 win against EV Pegnitz.

Geretsried – The Geretsried ice hockey team had more trouble than expected on Friday evening at the start of the Bayernliga relegation round.

After the 4:3 (3:1, 1:0, 0:2) victory against EV Pegnitz, Hans Tauber jun.

satisfied with the result, but not with the performance of his team.

"Perhaps nervousness played a role today," said the ESC coach.

His team made too many mistakes on the defensive.

"And after our clear lead, we allowed Pegnitz to come into play."

As usual, the River Rats, who started without Martin Köhler, Josef Reiter and Daniel Merl, got off to a powerful start.

After eight minutes, a Pegnitz own goal helped them to 1:0.

Klaus Berger made it 2-0 after a break after 15 minutes.

But just 16 seconds later, the ESC defense revealed the first carelessness that the Upper Franconians used through Paul Wolf to make it 1: 2.

Luckily, Marek Haloda restored the old lead with a slap shot in the majority – 3:1 (19th).

The home side struggled in the second half, while the Ice Dogs got into the game better and better.

Keeper Martin Morczinietz saved his team several times before Jakob Heigl extended the lead to 4:1 after 27 minutes.

The ESC was visibly surprised that the Pegnitzers sought their salvation by fleeing forward in the final third.

Michael Breyer (45th) and Daniel Sonnenberg (50th) brought the guests to 3:4.

Coach Tauber took a break, but it had little effect.

However, the Geretsrieders also had three top chances in the final phase in order to be able to make their deserved victory clearer.
