League leaders Arsenal have lost for the first time after 13 Premier League games without defeat.
The Gunners lost 0-1 (0-0) at Everton and are only five points ahead of Manchester City after 20 games.
The defending champion could reduce to two points with a win at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday (5.30 p.m. / TV: Sky), but with one game more.
James Tarkowski (60th) scored the decisive goal for the relegation contenders from Liverpool.
Arsenal FC only created a few chances in the first half and then remained completely harmless offensively.
Arsenal suffered their first league defeat since September 4, when London lost 3-1 to Manchester United.
For Everton manager Sean Dyche, the win was the perfect start to his new job.
The 51-year-old took over the coaching position from Chelsea icon Frank Lampard at the beginning of the week, whom those responsible no longer believed capable of turning the tide.
After the success, Everton is currently in 17th place in the English league.
