Gareth Bale has made a successful start to his golf career three weeks after retiring from the football stage.

The 33-year-old finished 16th out of 156 couples at the prestigious Pro-Am tournament in Pebble Beach, California alongside professional Joseph Bramlett (USA).

The duo ended the tournament, which was shortened to three rounds, in the amateur ranking with 16 strokes under par. In Pro-Am tournaments, a professional always plays together with a (often prominent) amateur.

The record Welsh national player Bale had made no secret of his passion for golf during his football career.

"He thinks first of the Wales national team, then of golf and then of Real Madrid," Madrid manager Predrag Mijatovic once said.

Back then, Bale was at odds with coach Zinedine Zidane and instead of playing at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, he often played on golf courses.

Bale's years of training seem to have paid off, but there's still room for improvement: The tournament, which has seen stars like actors Bill Murray and Kevin Costner compete in the past, was won by football pro Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers at the Alongside his Canadian teammate Ben Silverman with 26 under par. Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen was another NFL player in the field.

In the team with Keith Mitchell, he ended up being four strokes behind.

"It's really significant," Rodgers said. "It's always been on my bucket list."

There are currently rumors of a change about Rodgers, but he did not want to comment on the sidelines of the tournament.

However, when a reporter asked him about it while he was teeing off, the cheerful Rodgers joked, "I'm not going to San Francisco." He later admitted to CBS

stated that he mainly heard calls from fans of the Las Vegas Raiders on the course.

Meanwhile, the professional classification has not yet been decided, in which former world number one Justin Rose from England leads a US trio by two strokes.

Strong wind and rain repeatedly caused delays over the weekend.

Marcel Siem (Ratingen) and Matti Schmid (Herzogaurach) had already failed at the cut.
