The American had to abandon the combined after missing one of the last gates of the course. The American Mikaela Shiffrin, huge favorite, was forced to retire after leaving the track at the very end of the combined slalom, the first event of the Alpine Skiing World Championships on Monday in Méribel (French Alps). After her failure at the Beijing Olympics (no medal, three outings), Shiffrin (27) missed her entry into the running in Méribel, at the heart of a yet record season for her.
