The plan worked: With their 4:1 (2:0, 2:1, 0:0) victory at EHC Waldkraiburg on Sunday evening, the Geretsried ice hockey team made the six-point weekend at the start of the Bayernliga relegation round perfect.
"That was a very good performance from my team, especially tactically," praised coach Hans Tauber junior. "We had Waldkraiburg under control at all times."
Waldkraiburg/Geretsried – The ESC, which started without Martin Köhler, Daniel Merl and Josef Reiter, was initially rather defensive.
"We closed the back.
That worked out perfectly,” the coach said happily.
Especially since his protégés also took advantage of the counterattack chances: Xaver Hochstraßer scored after just one and a half minutes to make it 1-0, and Ondrej Horvath increased it to 2-0 after five minutes.
The Geretsrieder maintained this route in the second section as well.
Daniel Bursch gave the guests a 3-0 lead (26th).
And the River Rats didn't let themselves be deterred by a Waldkraiburg goal by Thomas Rott (29'), but instead restored the old lead with Hochstrasser's 4-1 (30').
In the final third, Geretsried had to deal with a number of penalties, including a 3-5 situation.
"The team survived that well, especially since our goalkeeper Martin Morczinietz made an outstanding save," said Tauber happily, but noted "that we could perhaps have scored six or seven goals in total".
Despite the arduous 4:3 win against Pegnitz on Friday, the coach was completely satisfied with the first interim result: "The goal for the weekend was six points - and the lads scored them."
Waldkraiburg - Geretsried 1: 4 (0: 2, 1: 2, 0: 0) - Goals: 0: 1 (1:30) Hochstrasser (Englbrecht), 0: 2 (6:16) Horvath (Haloda), 0: 3 (25:32) Bursch (Huber, Horvath), 1: 3 (28:22) Rott (Brenninger 5-4), 1: 4 (29:55) Hochstrasser (Strobl, Fuchs).
