While waiting to return to the paddock for the Bahrain Grand Prix (Sunday March 5), the first round of the 2023 season, Charles Leclerc treated himself to a deliciously “vintage” experience on the Abu Dhabi circuit on Monday.

Under the eyes of Jean Todt, emblematic boss of the Italian team at the height of Schumacher, the 25-year-old Monegasque driver took a twenty-year leap back in his discipline to cover a few laps of the circuit at the helm of the Ferrari F2003-GA.

What a day.

This is the famous single-seater entrusted to Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello for most of the 2003 season. The very one on which the "Red Baron" (Schumacher) won the sixth of his seven world titles twenty years ago. - the initials "GA" refer to Giovanni Agnelli, boss of the Scuderia, who died in January 2003.

In the presence of Jean Todt, former director of the team, then administrator of this one, the vice-world champion of Formula 1, three victories last season (five in total to his prize list), came out delighted with the experience: "An incredible day driving this 2003 beast in Abu Dhabi", commented the Monegasque on his Instagram account.

A lover of sensations and passionate about the history of the brand, Charles Leclerc has made a specialty of testing old Scuderia single-seaters.

He notably tested the 1951 Ferrari 375 F1, the 1967 Ferrari 312, the 1974 Ferrari 312 B3 and Gilles Villeneuve's Ferrari 312 T4.

The F2003-GA model tested on Monday has seven Grand Prix victories and five pole positions.

On social networks, fans rejoiced when they heard the sound of the overpowered V10.

The copy entrusted to Leclerc on the Yas Marina route belongs to Thomas Flohr, president and founder of VistaJet, an aviation company founded in 2004. The Swiss, passionate about the Prancing Horse brand, is also a "gentleman driver" with six participations in the 24 Hours of Le Mans to his credit in the LMGTE Am category, all at the wheel of 488 GTEs from the Italian manufacturer.

He took 2nd place in his class in 2018, alongside Francesco Castellacci and Giancarlo Fisichella.

This is a car not to be entrusted to the first comer, however... At a recent auction in Geneva in November, a copy of the famous F2003-GA was sold for 13 M€.
