The Brooklyn Nets suffered a painful blow with the departure of Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks.
Not only did the team from the Big Apple lose their point guard, they are also missing an injured Kevin Durant, and are slowly losing ground at the top of the Eastern Conference.
But the Nets also have one reason for optimism, and their name is Cam Thomas.
Brooklyn's new scorer is a 21-year-old guard, who was born in Japan and was selected 27th overall in the 2021 draft. In the team's last two games, Thomas scored a combined 91 points.
44 points against the Washington Wizards in the dramatic victory, and tonight (between Monday and Tuesday) 47 points in a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Thomas' performances earned him a new nickname: "Kila Cam": "Thomas was phenomenal. He can be even better. The sky's the limit for Cam," said teammate Nick Claxton after tonight's show.

With his 47 points (7 of 11 for three), 4 rebounds and 3 assists against the Clippers, at the age of 21 years and 116 days, Thomas became the second youngest player in NBA history to score two consecutive games with at least 40 points.
The youngest is still LeBron James at 21 years and 92 days.
"LeBron James' girlfriend is a great girlfriend, but I'm a Kobe Bryant guy, so if you said Kobe, I'd be a little more excited," the young player joked upon hearing about his achievement at the end of the game.
Thomas also talked about his relationship with Irving who left: "We had a lot of jokes together and talked about Kobe, Kevin Durant is like a big brother to me."
Asked Cam Thomas about him joining LeBron James as the two youngest players in NBA history to score 44 points in consecutive games:
"That's great company... I'm a Kobe guy though, so if you said Kobe I would've been a a little more excited.”
