Hope is gone.

This Tuesday afternoon, Yeni Matalyaspor, Turkish D2 club, announced the sad news in a press release on its social networks.

At 28, Ahmet Eyüp Türkaslan, his goalkeeper, died.

His body was found under the rubble during the day.

The footballer is one of the many victims of the terrible earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.8, which hit parts of Turkey and Syria on Monday morning.

Tuesday afternoon the macabre count approached 6,200 dead.

“Our goalkeeper, Ahmet Eyüp Türkaslan, lost his life after being collapsed by the earthquake.

Rest in peace.

We will not forget you”.

A poignant message accompanied by a black and white photo of the player.

Monday the concern was already great among the relatives of Türkaslan who had no news of the person concerned.

If his wife and daughter could have been pulled out of the rubble, Türkaslan's body remained nowhere to be found.

"Our goalkeeper Ahmet Eyüp Türkaslan is in the building that was damaged and destroyed in the earthquake," the club said in a statement on Monday.

Search and rescue efforts continue.

We haven't heard from him yet.

Address your prayers.

Also missing for many hours, Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu was finally found alive on Tuesday.

A leader of Hatayspor, where the Ghanaian international has been playing since 2022, announced the good news on Turkish radio.

The former Angevin striker, Stéphane Bahoken, who was at the Yeni Hatay stadium in Antioch on Sunday with his club Kasimpas for a league match against Hatayspor, also escaped the worst.

He shared his feelings with us.

“When it happens, you think it's going to stop.

You're reacting and you don't really have time to think.

Fear comes next, a posteriori.

Do you think what would have happened in another hotel?

The ceiling might have fallen on my head.

You understand, afterwards, that you missed death.

I got the fright of my life.
