"More than 20 thousand volunteer citizens came to help" • "It seems that the number of victims will increase by thousands more" • Journalist Gokan Tora in a special report for "Israel Today" from sad, bloody and painful Turkey

Turkey is at the epicenter of tectonic ruptures, which struck on the morning of one of the most horrific Mondays, costing the lives of more than 7,500 people so far - and at the very least, the numbers seem set to rise by thousands more.

There is no way to escape an earthquake, but in my opinion the most important thing is to prepare for dealing with such a disaster.

Regarding our preparation for the disaster, it is sad to say, but the reality shows that there is still a lack of responsibility and advance preparation to deal with such a disaster all over the country.

Thousands of civilians are still under the intermediate ruins at this moment, waiting for assistance, and it is not easy to reach those survivors quickly in order to try and rescue them from the ruins.

The bad weather - the snow and the cold - is another challenge that must be faced, while the Turkish government is still trying to reach all the affected areas in the southeast of the country.

gokanan tora,

The infrastructure is destroyed

It is not an easy task to reach the disaster area, also because there are many main traffic arteries that connect the affected cities, and which themselves suffer from the earthquake, and are mostly broken and unusable for passage.

Some of the airports and hospitals that serve the citizens of the area were also damaged or out of use.

The Turkish government called on the Turkish army to mobilize to help the affected cities together with civilian medical forces, with the assistance of the organization AFAD (Emergency Disaster Management).

Many people from different regions throughout Turkey also mobilized for the benefit of the situation and the victims.

They arrived in the area on chartered flights, in trucks and also in their private vehicles in order to ensure that the basic needs of the survivors are met.

Over 20,000 citizens came to the affected district to help the survivors of the disaster and assist in whatever was needed, and the mobilization was from all over the country.

In addition to them, many countries from around the world rushed to send aid teams that were received very warmly by the Turkish government and people.

At the same time, all sports events that were planned to be held in the country were postponed until further notice.
