2023-02-08T10:21:02.180Z

Domenico Tedesco is Belgium's new coach. The 37-year-old German-Italian coach has signed a contract with the federation

Thierry Henry, a time cited among the suitors, will remain a consultant on Prime Video.

In the staff of Roberto Martinez, the former coach of the Red Devils, from 2016 to 2018 then from 2020 to 2022, the former striker of the Blues had denied in early January having submitted his application to recover the vacant position.

For a few days, it is Domenico Tedesco who held the rope.

The 37-year-old German-Italian technician had been free since his ousting from RB Leipzig last September.

His initialed contract with the Belgian federation runs until the summer of 2024 and the Euro in Germany.

After a disappointing 2022 World Cup and elimination in the first round, the selection must rebuild quickly.

Vincent Kompany (Burnley) and Philippe Clément (Monaco), the two most prominent Belgian coaches at the moment not being available, the managers have studied the avenues Joachim Löw (ex-Germany), André Villas Boas (ex-Olympique de Marseille), Mauricio Pochettino (ex-PSG) and Peter Bosz (ex-OL), in vain.

Anxious to breathe youth into an aging group, the choice Tedesco (37 years old) quickly imposed itself for the federation.

“I had a good feeling during our first discussion and we were immediately on the same wavelength.

I'm really motivated and I can't wait to get started.

It is a great honor for me to be Belgium's new federal coach,” declared the new boss of the Red Devils in a press release published by the federation.

At the same time, Francky Vercauteren (66) has been appointed national technical director.

The federation also spoke about the former FC Nantes player (1987-1990) and Belgian international.

“He is exactly the person we were looking for.

He has a purely footballing profile with great international experience at the highest level”.
