LeBron James did it.
Many wondered whether the Lakers star would be able to reach 36 points already this morning (Wednesday), against Oklahoma City, and estimated that he would need two games to break Kareem Abdul Jabbar's legendary points record.
King James had other plans - he reached 36 points already at the end of the third quarter, thus becoming the NBA's leading scorer of all time.
Immediately after the special jump that broke the record, a short ceremony was held in LeBron's honor, with the participation of Kareem and Commissioner Adam Silver.
"I want to thank the Lakers fans, you are unique and special. To do this in front of a legend like Kareem is amazing to me, please give him a standing ovation," said LeBron, and the applause did come.
"To my beautiful wife, my daughter, my two sons, my friends, my dad, and everyone who has been a part of this journey of mine over the last 20 years, I want to say thank you - I wouldn't be who I am without you," James added.
"All your work, all your passion, the sacrifices that helped me get to this point. Thank you also to the NBA, Adam Silver, David Stern, thank you for allowing me to be a part of something I've always dreamed of. Even in a million years I wouldn't have dreamed it would happen in a better way. Puck... thank you."
