Mondial 2023: French players will be able to come with their child

2023-02-08T11:44:19.678Z

The coach of the France team has announced that her players could be accompanied by their child to Australia and New Zealand next summer.

A player who recently gave birth will be "

allowed to take her child

" to the Women's World Cup-2023 (July 20-August 20), said Blue coach Corinne Deacon on Wednesday, who said she had no "

barrier

" on this subject.

There will be no barrier, the Federation's position is very clear on this.

The mother will be allowed to take her child, if she wishes

” to Australia and New Zealand, she said at a press conference.

Afterwards, we still have to work on certain conditions, but the Federation has thought about the subject and is completely in favor.

There will be no problem

,” she continued.

Unveiling her list for the Women's Tournoi de France, a friendly event that Les Bleues will play from February 15 to 21, Corinne Deacon notably called goalkeeper Manon Heil (Fleury), mother of a child.

However, she did not call Amel Majri, who returned to competition with Lyon in January after an injury and childbirth.

Fallen pregnant during her recovery, she became in July 2022 the first active French international to have a child.

"

I'm not in the life of the players, I just watch their performances, even if you can't separate the human being from the athlete.

If it can be a balance for the player, why not?

Today it is true that it is becoming something frequent, in our country or in other countries

, ”she explained.

Afterwards, we have to see how they will come back.

Manon (Heil) had a little more time compared to Amel following her pregnancy, and it's also a different position, goalkeeper.

We have to see how these two players evolve after this happy event

, ”she concluded.

The question of pregnancies has regularly been a source of tension in women's football, particularly on the part of the players' employer clubs: in January, Icelandic footballer Sara Bjork Gunnarsdottir revealed that her former club Lyon had not paid her in full when of her pregnancy in 2021, a loss of salary which she had restored by the FIFA Football Tribunal.

More broadly, the subject came back on the table with the case of French sailor Clarisse Crémer, who was ousted by Team Banque Populaire and deprived of the Vendée Globe due to her maternity.
