Canadian James Crawford has won the men's Super-G competition at the World Ski Championships in Courchevel.
In the World Cup he has only had a second place in this discipline.
Yesterday, Marta Bassino, an athlete who had previously not won a World Cup, won the women's Super-G.
Crawford was just a hundredth of a second ahead of Norway's Aleksander Kilde.
Bronze went to local hero Alexis Pinturault (+0.26 seconds).
The Frenchman had already won gold in the combination at the start.
Top favorite Marco Odermatt was only fourth (+0.37 seconds).
The Swiss had won four of the six Super G races this winter.
At the 2022 Olympics, Crawford was already third in the combination and in downhill (fourth place) and super-G (sixth place) close to the podium.
"I didn't think I could win, but I managed to execute my plan from top to bottom," Crawford said after the race.
Of the Germans, only Sander is convincing
Of the German starters, only Andreas Sander was convincing in ninth place (+0.67 seconds).
Romed Baumann (+1.88 seconds), two years ago in Cortina d'Ampezzo still second in the World Championships in this discipline, and Simon Jocher (+1.96 seconds) stayed far away from the top 15 places, Josef Ferstl dropped out .
"There you can see again, the World Cup - there is always at least one surprise on the podium," said Sander on ZDF about the Canadian's triumph.
The 33-year-old missed a possible coup because of a mistake in the final section.
“I was really annoyed while driving.
If I have to blame myself, it's this, it shouldn't be happening,' he said.
After a rest day, the Ski World Championships continue with the downhill competitions.
On Saturday (11 a.m./TV: ZDF and Eurosport) the women drive, on Sunday (11 a.m./TV: ZDF and Eurosport) the men.
