It could have been a day of celebration, but instead Dominik Paris got away with his bad fall with a fright.

The 33-year-old Italian went on the attack in the Super-G, after the second split he was already 0.27 seconds ahead of the leader and World Ski Championships favorite Loic Meillard, who loves an ex-athlete.

But then the devastating mistake: Paris chose a very narrow line when entering a left turn and received a heavy hit at a speed of around 100 km/h.

The 21-time World Cup winner was completely levered out and was no longer able to prevent the fall.

The South Tyrolean was thrown through the air and tried to catch himself on one leg.

He could no longer avoid falling onto the icy slope and slid down the slope.

At least he was spared the rough impact on the fence.

Luck in misfortune: Paris initially lay down, but was back on his feet just a few minutes later and was able to leave the scene of the accident on his own.

"I got a fine horse bite on the back," Paris explained afterwards in a

Rai

interview in South Tyrolean dialect about the bruise on his buttocks.

He went full throttle and tried to drive the narrowest line, but then his arm got stuck on the gate.

"Donn hot's mi glupft".

"NOOOOOO CADUTA PER DOMINIK PARIS" 😱😱😱

World Ski Championships: Surprise winner in the Super-G - Paris attacks again in the downhill

Whether it would have been enough for Paris with this aggressive driving style in the end to a podium place remains uncertain.

Canadian James Crawford delivered a surprise win, beating Alexander Aamodt Kilde by just a hundredth of a second.

Third was Frenchman Alexis Pinturault (+0.26).

On Sunday, the Ski World Championships will continue with the downhill, then the three-time Kitzbühel winner Paris should calculate chances again.

Meanwhile, the ski world mourns Paris' compatriot: Elena Fanchini (37) dies after a tragic story of suffering.
