In the fifth round of the Scottish Football Cup, there were two curious goals on Sunday evening.

In the 3-2 (0-1) victory of defending champions Glasgow Rangers over the traditional club Partick Thistle, a loan player from the Bundesliga was particularly in focus: Malik Tillman came to Scotland from FC Bayern Munich in the summer.

The 20-year-old was slightly injured in a duel against Partick Thistle, his team-mates played the ball wide.

To be fair, the second division team wanted to play the ball back to Rangers.

Tillman, now back on his feet, had another idea.

He intervened when Thistle defender Kevin Holt advanced the ball too far.

The US international took the outsider's entire defense by surprise and scored to make it 2-1 (71st minute) - an action permitted within the framework of the rules, but which went down extremely badly: After his goal, Tillman was pushed to the ground by the opposing defenders, Referee David Munro issued two yellow cards during pack formation.

Rangers allow the equalizer

Apparently, however, the Rangers also had a problem with possibly advancing through a goal before which a fair play gesture by the opponent had been used to their own advantage.

When the game was restarted, the Rangers defense made a point of stopping defending and watched Scott Tiffoney walk towards goal to make it 2-2 to Partick Thistle.

"We don't want to win a football game that way, that's not the right way," said Rangers coach Michael Beale after the game.

He defended Tillman himself: "It was just a misunderstanding with Malik," said Beale.

Tillman was not aware of the situation.

"He's a fantastic young player and I don't want him to be blamed for that."

In this way, the Rangers retained their sportsmanship - and finally got through, a late header by James Sands decided the hard-fought cup game in favor of the favorites (86th).
