Marcus Rashford must guard against "laziness" if he is to remain one of the best strikers in Europe, says Manchester United manager Eric ten Haag, after the 25-year-old striker scored his 21st goal of the season in his side's 2-0 win yesterday in Leeds

Now the England striker is one goal away from his 2019/20 record under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. "I don't know when it will stop but if you are satisfied with it, then it will stop," said Ten Haag, "and because satisfaction leads to laziness, you have to keep going invest every day. When he maintains the investment and maintains the focus in every game and brings the energy and belief, he will continue to score. He has the skills to score with his right foot, with his left foot, with his head...the thing is, he has to put himself in the right position" .

Rashford now has 114 career goals for United, and is 19th on the club's all-time list.

Since the World Cup he has scored 13 goals in 15 games.

Rashford didn't score in just three of those 15 games: ten of them ended in victory.

Only one - at Arsenal - ended in a loss.

When asked if he is the best striker in Europe, Ten Haah said: Rashford is "definitely one of them".

Rashford has had a disappointing 2021/22 season, scoring just five times in all competitions and just twice in his last 28 games in an injury-hit campaign.

Also this season, Rashford scored only 5 goals in his first 13 appearances, before finding the net in consecutive games at the end of October.

Already with his appointment, Ten Haag expressed complete confidence in his ability to upgrade Rashford, when he took control of the club last May.

"I was convinced from the first moment," said Ten Haah, who is preparing together with his team for the meeting against Barcelona in the Europa League (Thursday, 19:45, Sport4).

"I was really excited to work with him. I thought I could get more out of him. He has so many skills and such high potential, and it could be even more."
