With six points from three games, ESC Dorfen started relatively well in the Bayernliga relegation round.

Dorfen – Curiously, the two away games in Schweinfurt were won 4:3 and most recently in Pfaffenhofen with 5:3 goals (after a 5:0 lead) and only the only home game so far was very unluckily lost by almost 2:3 against feared opponents Buchloe.

Since the Friday game of opponent EV Pegnitz had been canceled due to a flu epidemic in the team, the Ice Pirates only had to play once at the weekend: at the Eishogs in Pfaffenhofen.

The game got off to a good start there, and although the Eishhogs had one or the other, not necessarily 100% chance, they effectively used the chances in the first third and then played very well in the majority, ESC trainer Franz Steer analyzed.

Urban Sodja scored the first goal once again, scoring 1-0 for the seventh time this season.

After the comfortable 5:0 lead, however, things started again: "We didn't continue playing as concentrated." And when the puck slipped from the shoulder of a Dorfen player into the goal at 1:5 fifteen minutes before the end, the hosts got it upwind again.

"You're already wondering why you suddenly lose the thread, but I've already experienced this during my time in Rosenheim," said Steer.

"I actually wanted to use all the players in the final third, but after conceding two powerplay goals I was happy that we still pulled the whole thing and were able to take three points." The ESC coach confirmed the Eishogs' good powerplay, especially in the final third.

Pfaffenhofen's trainer Stefan Teufel found words of warning and praise for his Eishogs.

"If you throw away the first third like you have done a few times this season, then in the end there is usually nothing that can be counted," summed up the EC coach.

At the same time, however, he pointed out that in Schweinfurt the 5: 6 after extra time could still be made up for a 1: 5 deficit.

Teufel was satisfied with the power play: "But we still have to fix one thing: that we get into a game well and show more willingness to run from the start."

He did not want to go into detail about the performance of the four referees.

In the end, Dorfen deserved to win and overall he can be satisfied with his team's performance, despite the defeat.

The Dorfen camp found it annoying that Holzkirchen had canceled the U20 game in Dorfen for the second time on Sunday at very short notice.

Otherwise it would have been possible for the ice pirates to use the juniors who are part of the squad.

But it was too short-term.
