Jordi Cruyff, the technical director of Barcelona today, is fondly remembered by Maccabi Tel Aviv fans when, before he left Israel, he led their team to many successes.
Today (Tuesday) Cruyff was interviewed by the Spanish "Marka", and revealed, among other things, interesting details about his time in Israel.
The Dutchman said: "When Peter Boss left Maccabi, one of the candidates to replace him was Eric ten Haah (now the coach of Manchester United)."
About his candidacy he added: "He coached Utrecht, a club that was not easy because of the pressure he was in, and that means he already had the necessary qualities to know what needed to be done on and off the field. In the end, he didn't come, but he was among the candidates".

Cruyff also told about the time when he left Barcelona as a player and signed for United in the summer of 1996: "Alex Ferguson flew to Barcelona accompanied by two members of United's management," he said.
"He came to my house and convinced me to join. It was a young team and he was looking for more young talents. I left the nest. We left sunny Barcelona and arrived in cold and windy Manchester - it was like that for four years."
In 2018, Cruyff left Maccabi Tel Aviv after 6 years in which he served as the sporting director as well as head coach.
After he left, he coached Chongqing Lipan from the Chinese Super League, then was appointed coach of the Ecuador national team, returned to the Chinese league and coached Shenzhen, and in 2021 was appointed the technical director of Barcelona.
