The union will be able to send at least 13 representatives to the following games • The recommendation of the athletes who will receive the ticket to the games will be made by a committee, according to the opinion of the national coaches and the cumulative score in the target competitions

The management of the Sailing Association approved today (Wednesday) at its meeting the plan for selecting the Olympic representatives for the Paris 2024 Games in the fields of sailing and surfing.

Dozens of Israel's male and female athletes in sailing will fight for the next year and a half not only to achieve the Olympic quota in the various models, but also in a race among themselves for the ticket to represent Israel in each of the disciplines.

As you remember, in sailing the quota is reached at the country level and only after that the representative himself is chosen, this is because each country can send one and only one female representative in each model.

Israel is competing in seven Olympic models for the Paris Olympics - the IQ foil surfboard, Kate foil, mixed 470 boat, ILCA6 and ILCA7 boat and 49er and 49er FX boat, so that in the optimal situation the sailing association could send thirteen representatives.

The recommendation for the athletes who will receive the ticket to the games will be made by the committee for selecting the union's Olympic representatives based on the opinion of the national coaches and the cumulative score in the target competitions.

During the next year and a half, the sailing association marked four target competitions, the pre-Olympic competition, the World Championship and the European Championship 2023 and the European Championship 2024, in which points will be accumulated for each of the athletes according to their position in the competition.

In addition, it was determined that an athlete who wins a medal in the pre-Olympic competition as well as in the World Championship will be awarded a "gold score" criterion, which entitles him to an Olympic ticket without another opinion.

Already this coming May, the European IQ Foil Surfboard Championship will be held, which outlined the first goal competition in the model, and in July the pre-Olympic competition will be held, which is the first goal competition for all other models.

The goal of the Olympic delegate selection system is to ensure that the delegates have the highest chance of winning a medal in Paris, so that the athletes who show consistency will earn the coveted ticket.

In addition, the method was built in order to maintain continuity for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028.

Another advantage of the method is in maintaining the fabric of the national teams, which has proven itself and has brought achievements in recent years.

The sailing association wants to instill a healthy competitiveness within the teams, which will contribute to the continuation of their orderly and successful work until the end of the 2024 and 2028 campaigns. The goal is to maintain the joint work as close as possible to the Olympic Games, so that the selected representatives will be given the best conditions in the months of preparation and there will be training competitions and maintaining fitness until for the very last minute.

The method proved to be effective in the last campaign, when the members of the men's windsurfing team continued to work with Yoav Cohen, who received the Olympic ticket and postponed the transition to the new model of the surfboard.
