Three disciplines, three medals: the Bavarian indoor and winter throwing championships were a complete success for Emilia Kurz from TSV Dorfen.

Three disciplines, three medals: the Bavarian indoor and winter throwing championships were a complete success for Emilia Kurz from TSV Dorfen.

Dorfen/Munich – It didn't look like it at first.

Stiff with nervousness, the 14-year-old, who had qualified from among 32 participants for the final over 60 meter hurdles, did not get off the starting block well - she reached the first obstacle as the last of the eight finalists.

But then she rolled up the field from behind, hurdle after hurdle.

In the end, Kurz sprinted to the finish line in second place, 17 hundredths of a second behind Eva Schmid (LG Augsburg).

With 9.04 seconds, the young athlete was below her best time (8.98 seconds), but she was still happy about the Bavarian runner-up title in the U16s.

"Considering that the start was so bad, I can be satisfied with the end result," said the Oberdorfer, relieved after the race.

“Now I’m just looking forward to the outdoor season.

With the 4 x 200 meter relay of the LAG Mittlere Isar, she proved that the young athlete can actually develop her full potential better on the longer running distances.

Completely surprisingly, Kurz found out about her participation 90 minutes before the starting gun – she was already back at home in Oberdorfen.

She was supposed to stand in for sick Lana Pavic (LC Freising) in the U18 team.

Although Kurz had neither trained the 200-meter distance nor the handover with the Freisingers Emma Pfluger, Johanna Billmeir and Lina Bachmann, she didn't hesitate for a second, jumped into the car and drove back to Munich with her mother to the Werner-von-Linde- Hall.

As the starting runner, the 14-year-old brought the team well into the race, which ultimately won it: With a new best time of 1:48.36 minutes and two seconds ahead of LG Augsburg, the relay runners from LAG Mittere won Isar won the Bavarian Indoor Champion title among the six participating teams.

But for Kurz that should not have been the last medal of the two-day championships: On the second day she competed in the javelin throw.

Only seven throwers from Bavaria had completed the qualifying performance of 30 meters.

Despite the cool temperatures, the woman from Oberdorfen showed a good series of throws.

In the fourth of six attempts, the 500 gram javelin landed at 35.21 meters - a distance that none of the other participants could match and meant victory for Kurz.

Club colleague Jannik Straub also did well at the Bavarian indoor championships.

After a less successful year in 2022 due to illness, the 16-year-old showed that he can be expected again.

In the U18s, he qualified among 16 participants for the final over 60 meters hurdles.

In the final, he finished second in 8.27 seconds, taking the runner-up title.

In the 60-meter sprint, too, Straub was at the forefront: In a field of 38 participants, he achieved the eighth fastest time of 7.36 seconds, but then relinquished the ticket in the final.

For Vincent Bachmayr, on the other hand, the competitions in Munich's Werner-von-Linde-Halle were disappointing.

The hurdle sprinter was not able to bring his training performance to the track in the U20 age group.

He missed a podium finish by four hundredths of a second and, at 8.98 seconds, was well short of his chances.
