The German biathletes won silver in the relay at the home world championships in Oberhof.
Vanessa Voigt, Hanna Kebinger, Sophia Schneider and Denise Herrmann-Wick were only beaten by the surprisingly strong Italians (0+2) after six spare rounds, 24.7 seconds behind.
Third place went to Sweden (+55.7/2+11).
After gold in the sprint and silver in the pursuit for Herrmann-Wick, it was the third medal for the German Ski Association in Oberhof.
The last title so far was won by a German women's relay six years ago in Hochfilzen, Austria.
The German women's team had already been on the podium in three out of four relay competitions this winter.
It was unclear for a long time on Saturday whether the race could take place at all.
After an official warning from the German weather service of gusts of wind of up to 85 kilometers per hour, the final okay from the International Biathlon Association and the World Cup organizations for the competition was only given late in the morning.
The final mass starts for men and women are scheduled for Sunday in Oberhof.
