FC Bayern Munich lost 2:3 (1:1) at Borussia Mönchengladbach and can be replaced as leaders by Union Berlin on Sunday.

There were wins for VfB Stuttgart (3-0 against 1. FC Köln), SC Freiburg (2-0 at VfL Bochum) and RB Leipzig (3-0 in Wolfsburg).

FC Augsburg had already won 1-0 (0-0) against TSG Hoffenheim yesterday.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann made five changes after the 1-0 win at Paris Saint-Germain.

Winter signing Daley Blind made his debut in the starting XI, as did Ryan Gravenberch, while Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané and Matthijs de Ligt moved to the bench.

After a short time Nagelsmann had to change again: Dayot Upamecano was the last defender to bring down Alassane Pléa – red (8th minute).

And before Joao Cancelo could come on from Munich, Lars Stindl had put Gladbach ahead with a shot from 18 meters (13').

VfL missed more good chances, but Munich equalized after fine preparatory work by Alphonso Davies through Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (35').

Bayern weren't as good in the game despite one man, but Gladbach made it 2-1 after Bayern lost the ball through Jonas Hofmann (55'), and Ramy Bensebaini hit the crossbar shortly afterwards (57').

Substitute Marcus Thuram made the decision (84th), Mathys Tel could only shorten (90th + 3).

Borussia Mönchengladbach remains unbeaten against FC Bayern in their fifth competitive game in a row.

VfL recently won five home games in a row under new coach Thomas Letsch.

His opponent Christian Streich was allowed to spend his 340th Bundesliga game in his coaching zone again after being suspended from watching last week.

Both got to see an intense duel at eye level, in which chances were initially a rare commodity.

A set piece brought the first goal: A Freiburg corner fled high and wide through the Bochum penalty area and Michael Gregoritsch made a powerful shot at the second post (39').

It was the Austrian's eighth goal of the season.

Bochum worked their way into the game, but Freiburg remained ice-cold up front: Lucas Höler used the visitors' third opportunity with a header to score the second goal (51').

Bochum's Anthony Losilla saw the red card after a serious foul (63').

Freiburg defended fourth place with the win, VfL must hope for a win for BVB against Hertha BSC on Sunday in order not to fall back directly into the relegation zone.

The interim upward trend of Wolfsburg is finally over after the fourth league game without a win.

After Bayern's bankruptcy, Leipzig remains fifth in the title fight and is currently four points behind FC Bayern.

With the 0-1 half-time deficit against Leipzig, VfL was still well served.

RB created several promising chances, but only one shot from Emil Forsberg was successful before the break.

The Swede shot from distance and placed the ball into the right corner of the goal (14').

Leipzig was also in good defensive shape before the Champions League round of 16 against Manchester City on Wednesday and hardly gave up any chances.

After an injury break of several weeks, Leipzig's top star Christopher Nkunku returned to the pitch in the 68th minute.

The French substitute had a great chance to make it 2-0 with ten minutes remaining, but shot over the goal.

Konrad Laimer did better five minutes later and made the decision.

In added time, Dominik Szoboszlai scored the last Leipzig goal after a fine individual action.

VfB Stuttgart, threatened with relegation, won for the first time in their sixth league game under coach Bruno Labbadia and landed a small liberation.

In the table, VfB jumps to 14th place for the time being, Hertha BSC could pass again on Sunday.

Cologne is stuck in the middle of the league after the defeat.

Gil Dias scored the opening goal in Stuttgart, who had too much space and time for his shot after a cross from Genki Haraguchi in the penalty area (9th).

The Cologne team now had to shape the game and couldn't cope against counterattacking Stuttgart.

Silas Katompa Mvumpa almost made it 2-0 in a changeover situation in the 26th minute.

However, his shot went wide to the left.

In the 53rd minute, the team quickly advanced through several stations, but this time Haraguchi missed the possible preliminary decision from close range.

In the 59th minute it was Borna Sosa who crowned VfB's strong performance with a perfect free kick into the right corner of the goal.

With his goal to make it 3-0, 22-year-old Tanguy Coulibaly finally reminded of how much potential the Stuttgart team has.
