Erding

– The Erding Gladiators made their first six-point weekend perfect in the championship round.

After the 5: 3 on Friday in Schongau, they added a 7: 2 (2: 0, 3: 2, 2: 0) against VfE Ulm / Neu-Ulm on Sunday evening.

Before kick-off, Erding's team boss Felix Schütz looked at his squad with satisfaction, as he was able to field six defenders and twelve forwards for the first time in a long time.

This time Christoph Schedlbauer was in goal.

Like last time, the gladiators started furiously and attacked the Ulm box guarded by David Heckenberger.

In the 5th minute, the Erdinger had the majority, tied the Devils in, and after a turmoil in front of the visitors' goal, Mark Waldhausen made it 1-0 on his third try.

After Ulm's first chance, which Schedlbauer destroyed, the Gladiators followed up: Daniel Krzizok made it 2-0 with a backhand shot from close range (8th).

The hosts continued to have control of the game and, after almost easily coming off a man down, it was time for the first break.

Then the “damned second third” began, as Gladiators fans call it, because their team has always had problems in the middle section.

The same applies this time: the Devils had the upper hand twice, Florian Döring heaved the puck into the net twice, the penalty time would have lasted 13 seconds (26th) and 19 seconds (29th).

But the Gladiators' answer came promptly: Just 44 seconds after the 2:2, Tomas Plihal completed a great combination to make it 3:2.

In the 36th minute, the Gladiators showed that they also mastered the power play.

Ron Rukajärvi fired, Krzizok caught the bat and it was 4-2.

The old distance was restored.

And it got even better: when two Devils were sitting in the penalty box, Krzizok, who had previously hit the post, increased it to 5:2 21 seconds before the end of the period.

So the “damned second third” had come to a happy end for Erding.

The Devils tried everything in the last third and acted a little harder, but the Gladiators didn't let anything go wrong.

When a shot by Simon Franz made it 6:2 in the four-on-four game, that was the decisive factor (47th).

Michael Trox made it 7:2 and the six-point weekend was finally perfect.
