Munich - The dream of promotion - it has moved into the distant future for the Munich Lions.
Without three points against SC Verl, the train would probably have finally left.
President Robert Reisinger already felt the need to take the pressure off the team and rejected the goal of promotion for the season.
Instead, the DFB Cup is now the goal.
"If enough points have been collected to stay up in the league, qualifying for the DFB Cup again comes into focus," said Reisinger cautiously.
Coach chaos at 1860: No agreement on new coach
And it doesn't take more than this sentence to grasp the situation of the ambitious third division team.
Sporty things are not going well, a new coach has still not been found after the separation from Michael Köllner.
At the home game against Verl, interim coach and managing director Günther Gorenzel will be on the sidelines again, possibly for the last time.
Provided that a decision is made in the coming week as to who can now take care of the completely unsettled team.
Beierlorzer favorite for a coaching position at TSV 1860
After a supervisory board meeting on Thursday evening, a solution in the Köllner successor seems to be in the offing.
"However, certain prerequisites still have to be met and details clarified," said Gorenzel.
As before, he did not comment publicly on names.
Favorite is Achim Beierlorzer.
The 55-year-old Franconian has a lot of experience, having worked at RB Leipzig, Jahn Regensburg and in the Bundesliga at 1. FC Köln and Mainz 05.
1860 interim coach Gorenzel: "They are our own biggest opponents"
Gorenzel definitely wants to celebrate three points in his own stadium in what may be the last game under his guidance.
He continues to see great quality in the 1860 squad.
"Right now it's more like we're our own biggest opponents," he said.
Defender Leandro Morgalla and midfielder Erik Tallig are injured and could be out.
Quirin Moll is yellow suspended.
