Germany's golf legend Bernhard Langer made history with his 45th victory on the PGA Tour.

The 65-year-old equaled the record of American Hale Irwin, who also won 45 tournaments on the US seniors tour in his career.

Langer defended the title at the Chubb Classic in his adopted home of Florida on Sunday.

The 1985 and 1993 Masters winner saw off former Ryder Cup captains Steve Stricker of the USA and Ireland's Padraig Harrington (both 202) thanks to a superb final round of 65 for a total of 199 shots at the Tiburon Golf Club in Naples ) through.

With the success, Langer also improved his own record as the oldest winner on the PGA Tour Champions.

He secured the title in Naples at the age of 65 years, 5 months and 23 days.

The veteran has been the star of the US senior tour for 15 years.

In the over-50s category, he earned more than $34 million in prize money.

Rahm number one again after a year

Bernhard Langer, who has been a golf pro since 1972, played on the PGA Tour from 1985 and scored three victories.

The Spaniard Jon Rahm, on the other hand, has already won 15 PGA tournaments at the age of 28.

He has now returned to the top of the world golf rankings with his most recent on Sunday in Pacific Palisades, California.

With a total of 267 strokes, the 28-year-old Basque distanced himself from Max Homa (USA), who was four years older, by two strokes thanks to two later birdies and is number one in the world again for the first time since March 2022.

For the first time in his career, Rahm managed to win three tournaments in one season.

15-time major winner Tiger Woods, who also hosted the tournament west of downtown Los Angeles, had nothing to do with the decision.

The 47-year-old American finished 45th on his comeback after a long injury break with 283 strokes.
