District

– With the marksmen, sporting normality has returned with the usual order of the title fights.

At the beginning of the year, the district championships were held, at which the tickets for the Upper Bavarians at the Olympic shooting range in Hochbrück were awarded.

For the best shooters from Gau Freising, however, the highlights only come in the summer after the Bavarian title fights.

Painful decline in the youth sector

In the last few years before the corona pandemic, the qualification quota for participation in the district championships was between 50 and 60 percent.

Gausport manager Edgar Pröpster is confident that half of the starters will make it through the next lap if the limit numbers for this year don't change significantly.

However, the required number of rings has not yet been determined.

Jack of all trades: Florian Reindl from Tüntenhausen won the men's I with the air rifle.

The fact is: At the first district championship after a three-year forced break, there was a significantly lower number of participants.

Compared to the Freising title fights before Corona, it was around a third less, Pröpster estimates.

The decline was particularly painful for students, young people and juniors.

There were also sporting losses: the men's and women's air rifle finals did not take place due to a lack of interest, the Gausport director regrets.

Finals were only shot with the air pistol and with the rest shooters.

Gausport leader very satisfied with the results

The showdown with the air pistol was really exciting: Yannick Margolf had to work hard in the final duel with Florian Reindl, who shoots with rifle and pistol with clockwork precision.

Meanwhile, the edition stronghold of Allershausen with four starters around winner Reimund Seibert provided half the field of the other final.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

For the coming years, the district championship has room for improvement - although Pröpster was satisfied with the performance: In the air rifle discipline, the men and women achieved 400 rings several times.

"Especially with the rest shooters, the ring numbers are getting better and better."
