In the middle of the final third, EA Schongau was 2:4 behind in Amberg.

But then the mini squad of the "mammoths" pulled themselves together for a real energy performance.

Schongau

– What a tour de force that was!

With an extremely weakened team, EA Schongau in Group B of the Bayernliga championship round almost lost a game at ERSC Amberg.

The “Mammuts” were two goals down twelve minutes before the end, only to finally come off the ice with a 6:4 (1:1, 1:1, 4:1) victory.

"It's amazing, the squad is just great," said EAS coach Markus Ratberger, who only had 13 field players on the trip to the Upper Palatinate.

In the middle of the first third, Leonhard Zink was also absent from Schongau

In the middle of the first half defender Leonhard Zink was also injured, so that the "mammoth" herd shrank to twelve men.

"The boys have moved very close together," said Ratberger, praising the team spirit that the Schongauers had missed a bit in Friday's home game against Erding.

"It was a self-sacrificing fight that deserves the utmost respect," Ratberger judged after the anything but easy performance at Amberg, against whom his team had lost three times this season by a hair's breadth.

"Mammuts" can rely on their goalkeeper Daniel Blankenburg

The Schongau got off to a good start.

Matthias Müller scored the early lead for his team (7th).

Shortly thereafter, two men from Schongau were sent to the penalty box – the hosts took advantage of the overweight that was due.

Michael Kirchberger with a double advantage and Shawn Campbell with still one man more on the ice put together a brace for the Ambergers in just 31 seconds (9th each).

The "Mammuts" were undeterred by this 1:2 deficit and the failure of Zink, who threw himself into a shot and blocked it painfully.

They were still good defensively and they could rely on goalkeeper Daniel Blankenburg.

But there was also a good keeper on the other side, Timon Bätge, who couldn't be overcome for a long time.

Schongau uses the overpayment game to equalize 2:2

It wasn't until the middle of the second half that Kevin Steiner managed to equalize 2-2 (34') in the second majority game of the "Mammuts".

Shortly before the end of the third, Schongau caught a counterattack, which Daniel Krieger used to lead Amberg again (38th).

The “Mammuts” scored four goals in less than eight minutes

In the final round, Tanner Campbell increased the lead to 4:2 for the home side with a direct acceptance (48th).

Instead of giving up and accepting their fate, the Schongauers gave a quick answer to this setback.

A concealed shot by Ryan Murphy brought the 3: 4 goal (53rd).

Shortly thereafter, Philipp Keil made it 4-4 during an EAS power play (56').

Afterwards, the "Mammuts" survived a manpower game unscathed.

Hardly complete again, Samy Paré made it 5: 4 for the guests 37 seconds before the end after Murphy's preparatory work.

Amberg then took his keeper off the ice to at least force the draw and an extra time with an additional field player.

However, the EAS didn't let the victory be taken away, because Murphy's shot to the 6:

With a win against Ulm/Neu-Ulm, Schongau is sure to be second in the group

The starting position for the Schongau team before the final home game against VfE Ulm/Neu-Ulm next Friday, February 24th, is as follows: They could draw level with TSV Erding in terms of points, but they lost the direct comparison – first place so it's definitely not possible anymore.

With a win, the "mammoths" are definitely second.

This is not entirely unimportant insofar as they would then have home advantage in a decisive third game in the play-off quarter-finals (“Best of 3” mode).

For EAS coach Ratberger, however, this is rather negligible in view of the strength of his team away from home: "Maybe home law is not so good for us."
