The World Swimming Federation announced today (Tuesday) that Israel will host the World Youth Championships between September 4 and 9, 2023. This is the first time that the Swimming Federation will host a competition of this magnitude in Israel.
Over 600 male and female swimmers from approximately 120 countries around the world are expected to come to Israel for the competition that will be held at the Wingate Institute.
This is the third most important event of the World Swimming Association and the second most important in 2023.
The championship, which will be held in an Olympic year, will last six days and will be an official competition to determine the criteria for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The World Youth Championship is held once every two years, when due to the corona virus, the previous championship was held last year and was hosted by Peru.
This is the first time, as mentioned, that a World Swimming Championship is held in Israel and this event joins other competitions organized by the Swimming Association in recent years: the European Championships for Adults in Short Pools (2015) and the European Youth Championships (2017).
The Chairman of the Swimming Association, Miki Halika: "After many efforts we managed to bring a world championship to Israel, for us this is an unprecedented achievement by any measure and I thank all the people who worked behind the scenes to make it happen.
I believe that an event of this magnitude will promote the swimming industry and I thank the World Swimming Association for putting their trust in us and choosing us to host the competition."
