On December 9, 2022, the participants of the IOC Olympic Summit analyzed the situation and the consequences of the Russian invasion in Ukraine.

The vast majority agreed that the Russian and Belarusian states should be sanctioned for violating the Olympic truce and the Olympic charter.

The sanctions mean that no international organization should support a national Olympic committee in Russia or Belarus.

The Olympic movement has been faced with a serious dilemma, which is that all athletes must be protected from political interference.
