Combined athlete Nathalie Armbruster won silver in the individual at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica, Slovenia.
The 17-year-old student was only beaten by the Norwegian title holder Gyda Westvold Hansen on Friday.
Bronze went to Haruka Kasai from Japan.
'My parents are here.
That means a lot to me,” said Armbruster for moral support.
»Without my family, what I did today would not be possible.« Her home trainer with her family and other fans had also traveled all the way from Baden-Württemberg.
First medal ever for combined athletes
For the German Ski Association (DSV) it was the second medal in the title fights in Slovenia and the first ever for a combined athlete.
Under the eyes of ski jumping world champion Katharina Althaus, Armbruster crowned her strong debut season, in which she had been on the podium seven times in nine World Cup races.
After jumping, all four German starters were among the top ten.
In the end, Maria Gerboth finished ninth as the second best German behind Armbruster.
The former Junior World Champion Jenny Nowak and Svenja Würth rounded off the strong DSV result in eleventh and 13th place.
After the title fights in Oberstdorf 2021, the combined athletes in Slovenia are only there for the second time.
Before the women continue, the first men's competition on the normal hill is on the program on Saturday (10:00 a.m. jumping/3:30 p.m. cross-country skiing, TV: ZDF and Eurosport).
On Sunday (10:30 a.m. jumping/3:00 p.m. cross-country skiing, TV: ZDF and Eurosport) both start in the mixed team competition, which is being held for the first time at a World Championship – to Armbruster’s delight.
"I'm really happy that I can start in the mixed team," she said, "this is a very special competition."
