The Israel Police announced this morning (Sunday) that they detained and arrested 20 people involved yesterday before and during the match between Maccabi Haifa and Betar Jerusalem at the Sami Ofer Stadium, who are suspected of various incidents of violence and possession of assault weapons.
According to the police statement: "At around 3:30 p.m., a brawl began near the stadium between the fans of the two teams, in which a car passing by hit two minor fans and slightly injured them. Another fan passing by with his car was hit by a glass bottle that was thrown at him and as a result cut his hand. The three turned away for medical treatment.
"The police arrested three suspects who were suspected of being involved in the fight and were caught with assault weapons in their possession. Later in the evening, a number of violent incidents took place which included the throwing of objects on the grass, the use of flares, as well as a number of people who are removed from football fields according to the sports law who came and tried to create provocation on the spot.

"During the evening, the police arrested a total of 20 people involved in the various events, seven of whom will be brought this morning before the Haifa Magistrate's Court judge with a request to extend their detention.
"The Israel Police will continue to act with all the tools at its disposal in order to bring to justice those who commit violent crimes in general, and those related to violence in sports, in particular, while harming public security."
