Never two defeats in a row

The defeat to Ireland a fortnight ago ended Les Bleus' record streak of 14 straight wins.

Since Fabien Galthié took office after the 2019 World Cup in Japan, it was only the seventh setback for the XV of France, for 25 successes.

“We are coming off a 14-game winning streak during which the players have proven, against different opponents and in different conditions, that they are capable of meeting any challenge.

Defeat can be synonymous with judgment, and therefore with punishment.

We took the time, with the staff, to analyze it.

, explained the tricolor coach.

Watch out for this confident Scotland after their good debut against England and Wales.

Be careful especially for the Blues: never in four years have they conceded two defeats in a row.

Scotland, itchy hair of the Blues

Few teams have triumphed over the Blues since 2019: England (December 2020 ap and March 2021) and Australia (2021 summer tour without the best elements) have succeeded twice.

Just like Scotland, yet not the most regular of nations, in March 2020 (28-17) and the following year at the Stade de France (23-27).

“The Scots started with a victory with the attacking bonus at Twickenham, they continued with Wales with a bonus victory.

When we look at their team composition, we realize that the Scots offer us their best team

, ”warns Fabien Galthié.

Especially since Finn Russell's teammates hit hard by winning for the second consecutive time at Twickenham against the XV de la Rose.

Haouas, back in favor

When Fabien Galthié took office, he was one of those famous “UFOs”, with an atypical career, that the new coach had thrown into the deep end.

A modern straight pillar (1.85 m for 123 kg), solid on the bases, rough and dynamic.

And then, over time, the Montpellier player disappeared from the radar and the experienced Uini Atonio took his place.

The latter being suspended after a dangerous tackle against Ireland, “Momo” Haouas is making a comeback in Blue, preferred to Sipili Falatea (UBB), who has been a regular substitute lately.

Against Scotland, Haouas – who recently hit the headlines for ten-year-old facts – will have to make up for lost time.

“We integrated Momo Haouas who was in the group of 28 and who has already played with us on different occasions.

This allows us to maintain a substantial collective experience”

, explains Galthié.

The strike force of the Scots

Even during these half-hearted years, the XV du Chardon has always been a playful team, capable of flashes and brilliance.

Having become more constant and regular, the selection of Gregor Townsend has lost none of its attacking power, quite the contrary.

It is carried by a leading three-quarter line, symbolized by its brilliant opener Finn Russell and its formidable finisher Duhan van der Merwe.

In two matches, the latter beat twenty defenders, more than all Welsh players.

In their convincing successes against England and Wales, the Scots scored nine tries, the best total of the Tournament.

The solid defense of the Blues, cornered by Shaun Edwards, will be put to the test.

Watson, watch out for the pruner

Gregor Townsend doesn't change a winning team.

Well almost.

Just one change: the return of third-line Hamish Watson, recovered from a concussion suffered during the home defeat against New Zealand (31-23), last November.

A reinforcement of weight in the perspective of the big war in the rucks which is announced against the Blues.

Voted best player of the Tournament in 2021, the Edinburgh player, still with a bandaged head, is a real scratching poison.

“Obviously we know what Hamish has done for us in the past and in recent matches too.

We know he's going to grab this chance with both hands,”

Townsend said of his flanker, who was selected for the British and Irish Lions' last tour of South Africa.
