The late HSV legend Uwe Seeler has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of international football.
The honorary captain of the German national team was elected to the »Salón de la Fama« in Pachuca, Mexico, by an international jury.
Hamburger SV's idol died on July 21, 2022 at the age of 85.
Since 2011 former football stars can be voted into the Hall of Fame.
To enter the Hall of Fame, you must have retired at least five years ago.
An international jury, in which sports media such as »Kicker« are represented, selects the legends for selection.
Four world championships, honorary captain of the national team - and folk hero
Seeler scored 43 goals in 72 international matches and was revered as »Us Uwe« not only in his hometown of Hamburg.
Apart from one game for Irish football club Cork Celtic FC, he played exclusively for HSV and scored 404 goals in 476 games.
With the club he won a championship title and once the DFB Cup, with the national team he became vice world champion in 1966.
After Franz Beckenbauer, Silvia Neid, Gerd Müller, Birgit Prinz, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Lothar Matthäus, Seeler is the seventh German football star to be included in the selection.
The former goalscorer prevailed in the voting against the Austrian Matthias Sindelar and the Italian Sandro Mazzola.
