The Syrian tennis team ranked sixth in the Asian Youth U-16 qualifiers, which concluded recently in Sri Lanka.
Our team achieved victory in its first doubles match over Turkmenistan 2-1 through Nawar Zahreddin and Ghaith Salim with a score of 6-3 1-6 10-7, and in singles Ghaith Salim won 6-4 6-3 and Muhammad Osama Siraj lost 6-4 6- zero.
Our team won the second match against its Iraqi counterpart, 2-1, as player Nawar Zahreddine lost 6-1, 6-2, and Ghaith Salim won 6-4, 6-1. In the doubles, our players won 6-3, 7-6, while losing The third meeting against Sri Lanka 2-1.
In the second round, our team lost to Hong Kong, the first seed in the championship, 3-0 in singles and doubles.
In the classification roles, our team defeated the Yemeni team 2-1, after which our team moved on to play in the fifth and sixth place match against Saudi Arabia, which won 3-0.
A member of the Football Association, Ghaith Al-Baroudi, said in a statement to SANA: Our team presented a good technical level in the qualifiers, and a discrepancy appeared in the level between the players due to the difference in experience and participation.
The qualifying matches were held in the city of Colombo, where the participating teams were divided into four groups, and the league system was adopted from one stage, at the rate of two singles matches and a doubles match between each two teams from the group.
Sixteen countries participated in the qualifiers: Iraq, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, Laos, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Guam, in addition to Syria.
