Maurizio Jacobacci starts the TSV 1860 adventure. But who is the new lion tamer?

The story of an immigrant from the working class district of Bern.

Munich – Maurizio Jacobacci had hardly arrived at TSV 1860 when he disappeared again.

First the new Löwen coach introduced himself to the public verbally at the press conference, then there were the first visual impressions during the subsequent first team training session under his direction.

Since then, the Scots have been close to Grünwalder Straße, and the units have been closed to the public since Tuesday.

Lion fans couldn't really get a clear picture of the new tamer.

So it's high time to introduce the 60-year-old in more detail.

TSV 1860: Jacobacci works his way up bit by bit

"Right to work and into the heads of the players plagued by the crisis", this is probably the thought behind Jacobacci's turbo start at 1860.

That fits if you follow what can be heard from his sporting homeland, Switzerland.

He grew up as the son of Italian immigrants in the concrete wasteland of Bern's working-class Bümpliz district.

According to his own statement, the fact that Jacobacci is now able to earn his money with professional football is the result of hard work.

"I can only convince with performance," Jacobacci once said to the Swiss Confederation.

And: "I'm always ready to take a step back".

His CV underlines this: after a successful striker career in the first Swiss league (for Neuchâtel Xamax and Servette Geneva, among others), Jacobacci was not above starting as an assistant coach in the seventh division and gradually working his way up.

TSV 1860: Jacobacci appreciates luxury goods - and health

Since then he has worked for a total of 19 clubs in 26 years (the lions are number 20), and the self-proclaimed "tactical freak" can't let go of football.

Switch off privately?

"It's definitely difficult," says Jacobacci in a brief portrait that is available on YouTube.

Especially at home, “football is there every day.

Certain thoughts always float in my head: about the line-up, about the opponent, what can we do in training, what can we improve?” He always knows “that I have to develop further”.

With this attitude, family man Jacobacci, who is now a grandfather, has come a long way.

Most recently he worked in the first Tunisian league.

The working-class child has become a Porsche driver with gelled hair, on his wrist he wears a Rolex watch, model Sea-Dweller, list price a good 14,000 euros, market price even higher.

If one judged Jacobacci only superficially, at first glance one could only conditionally attest his suitability for the (ex-)workers' association in 1860.

But if you listen to him, you will learn that the small things count for Jacobacci: "If you are healthy, you have a lot in life, you should take care of that.

The greatest treasure in life is actually not money, but health.”

Maurizio Jacobacci: The team has "everything to get top performances"

Jacobacci is aware of his privilege of being able to make money in professional football.

He wants to pass that on to his players.

Compared to the conditions in Tunisia, but also compared to the other teams in the 3rd division, 1860 have "a top infrastructure," said Jacobacci on Monday in the Medienstüberl, where he carefully weighed every word.

The team has “everything to get top performances.

That is also a gift.”

This attitude suits Giesing.

It remains to be seen how quickly it will reach the players.

At least on the training ground, Jacobacci wears a simple, black fitness watch – very down-to-earth.

Unlike some of its predecessors.
