The Alonso Show
We were expecting him and he responded.
Starting fifth, the two-time world champion driver lost places at the start and was forced to regain them on the track.
Alonso likes a challenge and he had fun with George Russell (7th) on lap 13, before offering himself magnificently Lewis Hamilton (5th) on lap 38 and finishing off Carlos Sainz (4th) on lap 46. Solid third, he finds a podium (99th) for the first time since Qatar in 2021 and perfectly launches the season of Aston Martin, new hair to scratch in Formula 1.
Red Bull a step above
The Austrian team already offers a double.
On the front line after qualifying, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez had fun on Sunday at Sakhir.
A real trip for the Dutchman who did not see many people during the race and offered his first victory in Bahrain.
On the Sergio Perez side, the Mexican fought at the start of the race with Leclerc before jumping him after the first stops to no longer be worried.
A very quiet Sunday for Red Bull.
Gasly's ascent
He started last after missing out in qualifying but Pierre Gasly has resources.
On an aggressive strategy (3 stops), the Rouennais came back strong.
He fought for a long time with Albon for tenth place before overtaking him and taking advantage of Leclerc's retirement afterwards (see below) to finish ninth.
Two valuable points for Alpine.

Calvary of Ocon
“Today was not our day. It's crazy to have had so many galleys. These
words are those of Esteban Ocon.
The native of Evreux experienced a real way of the cross, Sunday, in Sakhir.
Starting ninth, he first missed his grid start causing a first penalty of five seconds.
Then he had to change his front wing which was damaged but the penalty was then incorrectly taken.

The race direction then handed ten seconds of penalty to Ocon, already last at this time, but the Frenchman had been flashed in the pit lane in excess of speed before.
Five penalty seconds were added for a total of twenty.
In the end, the Alpine rider retired after the fortieth lap and it was surely better that way.
Leclerc already forced to retire
The Monegasque was unable to keep pace with the Red Bulls but he was firmly installed in third position.
He was therefore going to bring back big points and a first podium for Ferrari this season but his Scuderia came to a standstill in the last sector of lap 40. The reason?
A loss of power which forced Charles Leclerc to park.
Reliability still and always at the center of the problem among the Italians.
Where is McLaren going?
Like last season, the first Grand Prix was disastrous for McLaren.
Piastri retired very quickly while Norris spent the vast majority of his race at the back of the pack.
The Briton pitted six times to finish two laps behind Max Verstappen.
The McLaren already seems in immense difficulty.
