The Israeli soccer world is still shocked by the arson attack at Hapoel Tel Aviv's training complex. While the police are investigating the incident and amid suspicions that Beitar Jerusalem fans are involved, the club from the capital issued a statement of condemnation and support for its great rival.
"Betar Jerusalem feels the pain of Hapoel Tel Aviv and together with everyone we wait anxiously for the results of the police investigation, and of course if it is a heinous crime we condemn it and embrace our friends for the great destruction. Our Betar is founded on the values of patience and love as is the huge crowd Ours proves it every week," the official announcement reads.
Beitar's announcement also states: "If the Khodrov compound was indeed set on fire, we expect the Israel Police to lay hands on the perpetrators and show them no mercy even in sentencing them."
Red lines cannot be crossed and those who cross them will not be part of us.
As we announced in the morning, we will make available to Hapoel Tel Aviv any assistance they would like.
We call on all Beitar fans to hug the Hapoel fans who come to the game today and maintain a sporting atmosphere.
Let's all return home safely."
As I remember, this evening there will be a meeting between the teams, a meeting that was expected to be stormy even before the night's events.
From a professional point of view, the host needs 3 points in order to enter the top playoffs while Hapoel Tel Aviv needs the points in order to escape from the burning bottom.
