It couldn't have been much clearer: Liverpool FC continued to soar in the Premier League with a sensational 7-0 (1-0) win over Manchester United.

The Reds have picked up 13 points from the last five league games and are fifth in the table for the time being.

Newcastle have played a game less and could pass again.

United (49 points) are seven points ahead of Liverpool and third.

Mohamed Salah scored twice in the runaway win (66th minute/83rd) and is now Liverpool's top scorer in the Premier League with 129 goals.

Previously, Robbie Fowler had led this rating with the Reds.

Dutch World Cup star Cody Gakpo (43') gave the hosts the lead at Anfield just as United were at their strongest.

Darwin Núñez (47') and Gakpo again (50') made the decision with a double strike shortly after the restart.

Salah (66'/83'), Núñez (75') and Roberto Firmino (88') scored more goals against the third-placed side and ensured the biggest win of this prestigious duel.

"We know the result is crazy," said Klopp after the historic success on Sky Sports.

“That was the push we wanted.

So we are on the right track.

We want everyone to know we're still here.

That wasn't the case for a while, but today we showed who we can be and that's what we have to do from now on." In the meantime, Liverpool, who were second last year, had slipped far into mid-league, also the long-time Reds coach come under criticism.

In the Premier League, however, the Reds are now on course for a comeback, and the Champions League places are not far away either.

Liverpool are currently three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, who have played a game more.

Liverpool's season, which has been so disappointing for a long time, could still have a happy ending, at least in the league.

The team has already been eliminated from the FA Cup, in the Champions League it needs a tour de force.

In the round of 16 first leg, Liverpool lost 5-2 at home to Real Madrid.

The second leg will take place in Madrid on March 15.

Arsenal still sovereign in front of City

In the title race, champions Manchester City are no closer to Arsenal.

While the team of team manager Pep Guardiola won 2-0 (1-0) against Newcastle United on Saturday, the Londoners came from the bottom of the table at home against AFC Bournemouth to a happy 3-2 (0-1).

Reiss Nelson's winning goal came in the seventh minute of injury time.
