For a Frankfurt away win, VfL Wolfsburg had set the bar twice too high: First, a goal didn't really stick in the ground. Then VfL also made life difficult for the guests in sporting terms.

Eintracht Frankfurt got a point at VfL Wolfsburg.

In the 2: 2 (2: 2) of the European Cup aspirants, in which the coaches Oliver Glasner and Niko Kovač each met their former clubs, Omar Marmoush gave Wolfsburg the lead (10th minute).

An intermediate spurt from Frankfurt saw Eintracht temporarily in front after goals by Randal Kolo Muani (22') and Evan Ndicka (26') before Yannick Gerhardt equalized (43').

As soon as referee Daniel Schlager kicked off the game, he had to interrupt it again: Apparently the post of the Frankfurt goal wasn't properly stuck in the grass.

Kevin Trapp helped with a few pull-ups on the gate rods until the gate was the right height again.

A little later, Trapp was the center of attention again, but not in the goal, but far in front of his own penalty area: A ball from Gerhardt to Marmoush had overturned the defense.

Trapp tried to save the situation, but the VfL striker simply ran past the Eintracht goalkeeper and pushed in to take the lead (10').

The goal withstood a lengthy VAR check after initially being ruled offside.

Marmoush had been linked with a summer move to Eintracht during the week.

It is the second time in the second half of the season that a Frankfurt transfer target has been successful in a duel against SBU: Cologne's Ellyes Skhiri even scored twice in February.

French double strike brings Frankfurt back

After falling behind early on, Eintracht needed a few minutes to sort themselves out, but then found their way into the game better and put VfL on the defensive.

The game tipped over in just five minutes: Aurélio Buta's cross found Kolo Muani in the middle, and the Frenchman scored his eleventh goal of the season with a header (22').

Minutes later, Ndicka, who had moved up, took aim from the edge of the penalty area and turned the game around for the moment (26').

The SBU did not keep the momentum of this phase for long, Wolfsburg became more active again.

Tuta cleared a Marmoush lob in front of the line (37'), then Patrick Wimmer brought a free kick in front of the goal with a lot of cutting - Gerhardt headed in to equalize (43').

After the break, the game took a little time to pick up speed again.

In the 72nd minute, Eintracht were happy to take the lead again, but before Jesper Lindström's goal, assist Kolo Muani was ruled offside.

Eintracht is sixth with 39 points, Wolfsburg, five points behind in eighth place, can also hope to advance to a place in the European Cup.
