The tennis star Novak Djoković, which was not vaccinated against Coronavirus, has been denied entry into the USA, as a consequence, the world ranking list has canceled his participation in the ATP Masters in Indian Wells (from Wednesday).
If no short -term exemption is given for the Serbs, it will probably not be able to open in Miami (from March 22nd).
Djoković's cancellation confirmed the organizers of the tournament in Indian Wells on Monday night (CET).
The topic had been hotly debated until the end.
The US Tennis Association Usta and the organizers of the US Open had assured Djoković their support in their efforts to enter the country.
After the Homeland Security's decision, Florida's Senator Rick Scott took on an exception for Djoković US President Joe Biden.
He had to turn on and let Djoković put into the country, wrote Scott on Twitter and published a letter addressed to the White House on March 3rd.
Djoković had already missed the two tournaments last year because he still refused Corona vaccination.
However, the United States prohibits unvaccinated people.
This regulation applies at least until mid -April.
Djoković missed the Australian Open in 2022 because of the Corona vaccination.
After he had already entered, he was still rejected, and several months later he was only allowed to watch the US Open.
This year, the 35-year-old celebrated his 22nd Grand Slam triumph on his return in Melbourne and thus equated with record holder Rafael Nadal (Spain).
On the sidelines of the tournament in Dubai, where Djoković failed on Friday in the semi-finals on Daniil Medvedev, he had said that he hoped for the US authorities' permission soon.
This was refused, Djoković is replaced in the main field by Nikolos Bassilaschwili from Georgia.
