The president of the Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation, Irina Viner, was banned this evening (Monday) by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) for two years due to her behavior after the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The punishment came, among other things, following a line of words that Wiener said after Linoy Ashram won the gold medal in Tokyo at the expense of Russia's Dina Avrina.
Viner claimed that she did not come to the ashram to win and said to the Russian media: "I am sad and pained that the judging was not fair. It is a great injustice that the girl who won first place dropped the device with which she performed."
Weiner added at the time: "We are not used to losing, compared to Israel, which has lost all of the last five years. Before the Olympics, this girl (Linoy Ashram; AA) did not win any gold medal - neither in the Grand Prix nor in the World Championship.
As long as we faced her, she did not win gold and she was never more successful than us."
In a press release, the FIG said: "Public statements in the media after the defeat of the Russian artistic gymnastics team at Tokyo 2020 were considered offensive and in violation of FIG rules
In addition, FIG explained that the proceedings were also related to the removal of the candidacy of Natalia Kuzmina from the elections to the technical committee of the organization in 2021, after she refereed the final in which Russia lost the gold in favor of Ashram, for the first time since Atlanta 1996.
