Ireland seems promised at the Grand Slam but the Blues still have their chances mathematically. Overview of the different scenarios.

Who will win the 2023 edition of the Six Nations Tournament?

Before the 5th and last day, this Saturday, only two teams can still claim the title: Ireland and France.

The XV of Clover chained in Scotland a fourth success in as many meetings and prances at the top of the classification with 19 points.

After their historic victory in England, the Blues follow with 15 points.

If Ireland seems to be heading straight for a deserved Grand Slam, Fabien Galthié's men still have a mathematical chance of winning.

We will necessarily have to beat Wales and count on an improbable victory for England in Dublin.

The adjustment variables concern the bonuses registered and the difference between the points scored and the points received.

Get out the calculators...

  • Ireland lose against England without bonus, France win with bonus against Wales

In this case, Ireland would have 19 points and France 20. The Blues would therefore be champions.

  • Ireland lose against England without a bonus, France win without a bonus against Wales

The two teams would be tied with 19 points.

They would be separated by their points difference, calculated by subtracting all the points collected from the points scored.

Ireland are currently at +66, the Blues at +46.

If they are tied again, the total number of tries scored is taken into account.

Both teams have so far scored 16 each.

  • Ireland lose against England with the attacking bonus OR the defensive bonus, France win without bonus against Wales

Ireland would have 20 points, France 19. The Clover XV would be champions.

  • Ireland lose against England with the attacking bonus OR the defensive bonus, France win with the bonus against Wales

The two teams would be tied with 20 points and would be separated by the criteria mentioned above.

  • Ireland lose to England with the attacking bonus AND the defensive bonus

This rare case would happen if the XV of Clover lost with less than seven points difference while having scored at least four tries.

They would then finish with 21 points and be champions, regardless of the result of the Blues.
