The Leinster flyhalf - replaced in the 70th minute - came back to match the record of his compatriot Ronan O'Gara, former Munster icon turned Stade Rochelais manager, who had scored a total of 557 points in the competition continental and totaled 128 selections between 2000 and 2013 (1,083 points over his entire career).
Absent against Italy the previous day, Sexton had scored seven points in the 48 minutes he played in the 32-19 win over France in Dublin to reach a tally of 550, surpassing the English Jonny Wilkinson (546).
Record to improve against England
Sexton, currently under his contract with his Federation (IRFU) until the next World Cup, can overtake O'Gara next week when England come to Dublin for the 5th and final day of the Six Nations. .
Sexton has won the Tournament three times: in 2014 and 2015, making the Grand Slam in 2018. O'Gara, for his part, had only won the Tournament once, in 2009, participating in the second Grand Slam of the history of the XV du Clover after that of 1948.
